Led by Yogi Berra and accompanied by the No. 4 Train, the Subway Series champion Yankees today make their third straight trip through the Canyon of Heroes amid a shower of ticker tape and cheers. Hall of Fame Yankee catcher Berra, who once managed the Bombers and Mets, will be the grand marshal of the procession, which starts at noon from Battery Park and ends with a rally at City Hall.
But the grand finale is expected to be the fourth subway car, which will ride not under Broadway, but over its top on a flatbed truck. Hundreds of thousands of Bombers fans - still on an emotional high from the Yankees' four-game-to-one World Series triumph over the Mets on Thursday - are planning to skip school or come to work sick to once again honor their heroes.
