Is the tale of the Beat Generation not black and white, as originally intended? Simply put, Waltes Salles' adaptation of Jack Kerouac's On the Road is the film we're looking forward to this year as excitedly as any other. Unfortunately, it looks like the wait will be a little longer as any surprise appearance on the Croisette this May is unlikely as one of the supporting cast members, Alice Braga, told Pilula Pop that the production is working towards a 2012 release after recently finishing filming on the main film.
That schedule would put the film in line for the fall festival circuit rather than Cannes this May - a sentiment reportedly echoed by MK2's French distributor - resulting in another major dropout at the Croisette alongside Wong Kar-wai's The Great Masters and Pedro Almodóvar's The Skin I Live In. Braga, when asked whether the film would be in black and white, as Salles fought valiantly (and despite early photographs hinting at it), replied: “No!
