The long battle to eliminate residency requirements for city workers who are members of District Council 37 is nearing an end. Last week, the City Council voted to override Mayor Bloomberg's veto of a bill that would allow members of the city's largest union to live outside the five boroughs.
He simply wasn't happy with the bill approved by the City Council, especially the part that required all new DC 37 members to live in the city for two years. Overall, Bloomberg believed the bill should be consistent with the agreement reached between the city and the union. After years of inaction and behind-the-scenes bickering, the Council voted 47-0 to override the mayor's veto last Wednesday.
