You can remove John Turturro from New York films, but I would like to exclude the city from his representations. Few actors could play such a large group of New York blue-collar heads, tough guys, nerds and nutcases as Turturro, who was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and returned to his home borough 18 years ago.
These roots also show up in the films Turturro has made. Two of his three feature films, 1992's "Mac" and last year's "Romance & Cigarettes," are set here. They'll perform alongside Barton-Fink and Quiz Show in a tribute this week at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
