ROD STEWART CALLED IT “The Hall of Flames.” Steven Van Zandt came out with Silvio Dante hair, and Ice-T affectionately referred to his old boss with a phrase that could get you kicked out of the Marine Corps. All in all, it was business as usual: Last night the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrated its 20th anniversary with its annual $1,500-a-plate black tie induction dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
If anything was different, it was the intensity with which Hall played the celebrity card - starting with the red-carpet covered entrance where paparazzi treated him to rock royalty. The hall also brought together a panel of faculty members who may have outshone the impressive introductory course, which included Irish megagroup U2, edgy '70s rock band The Pretenders, bluesman Buddy Guy and soul veterans Percy Sledge and the O'Jays.
