Television began the new millennium with a "24-hour tour of holidays around the world." The year ended back in America with the nation engrossed in coverage of a historic, monumental conflict over the presidential election. Between these two extraordinary events, television became something close to normal—at least for television.
There were unique programs and events that set trends, embarrassing spectacles, highlights and some completely unpredictable events with unforeseen consequences for the media.
