Tonight television gets its chance to shine. On the eve of the new TV season, the biggest stars, brightest creative minds and network executives will gather for the annual Emmy Awards ceremony at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Fox will host a ceremony that promises a long parade of comedians, a last-minute salute to the late John Ritter — and, most likely, an enviable number of wins for dominant cable network HBO.
"The Sopranos" returned to take a stab at the Emmys after missing out last year when scheduling prevented the show from competing for television's top prize. “Six Feet Below,” another HBO drama series, also figures prominently among this year's nominees. All of these competitions and many more will be chaired not by one host or several co-hosts, but by a group of comics who will serve in various roles throughout the broadcast.
