LOVE IN THE TIME OF MONEY. With Steve Buscemi, Rosario Dawson, Carol Kane. Directed by Peter Mattei. Duration: 90 minutes. Rated R: Violence, strong sexual content and language. Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 play Reagen, beautifully adapted into a film called Rhonda by Max Ophuls in 1950 and reimagined on stage as The Blue Room by David Hare in 1998, there is hardly any pressing need for another take on Arthur Schnitzler's 1897 play Reagen.
The script was developed in the creative hothouse atmosphere of the Sundance Filmmaker's Lab, and it feels like working in a laboratory. As brilliant as the original play was, what's attractive here is its clever circular structure, which Mattei uses as a template for his own reflections on the loose, sporadically connecting threads of New York life.
