Millennium Entertainment has acquired U.S. rights to Oren Moverman's Rampart, starring Woody Harrelson, which had its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival. The action takes place in 1999. Harrelson portrays the Vietnam veteran, now a cop at the Rampart station, with the sensibility of an action hero.
Millennium plans to release the film in theaters this year, presumably as part of its Oscar campaign. CriticWIRE gave the film a B rating in Toronto, and The Playlist's Kevin Jagernaut described it as "a searing and gripping look at the corruption of a crooked cop...a great movie." Written by Moverman and James Ellroy, the cast also includes Ben Foster, Robin Wright, Sigourney Weaver, Steve Buscemi, Anne Heche, Cynthia Nixon and Ice Cube.
