As the taxi industry prepared to fight Mayor Bloomberg's plan to allow livery taxis to take street calls in outlying areas, the president of a major taxi medallion company raised $33,000 for City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. Andrew Murstein, President of Medallion Financial Corp.
“Medallion Financial has a long history of investing in women- and minority-owned companies...we thought she would be a great person for us, and I think she is doing a wonderful job,” he said. He insisted the money received from 30 taxi drivers, brokers and executives had nothing to do with the outer borough plan he opposed.
