Singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper will make her Broadway debut next year in “The Threepenny Opera,” playing prostitute Jenny in the satirical musical about a highwayman and his lover. Jenny was originally supposed to be played by Edie Falco (The Sopranos), who recently dropped out of the cast.
The Threepenny Opera first premiered on Broadway in 1933. The translation of the musical "Die Groschenoper" by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill is a satire on thieves, prostitutes and the dashing outlaw Mac the Knife, who will be played by Cumming in the latest version.
