With a weekend earnings of $18,445, actor-turned-director John Turturro's self-produced musical Romance and Cigarettes took the top spot on iWBOT and also became the best self-released directorial debut in recent memory. THINKFilm experienced a giant box office jump when In the Shadow of the Moon, a documentary about the Apollo astronauts, more than doubled its box office take from Friday to Saturday to $38,281 over the weekend.
Slightly less successful was The Bubble, director Eitan Fox's latest drama from Strand Releasing. With a per-screen average of $3,888, "The Bubble" ranked sixth on iWBOT. Rounding out the top five IWBOT films were IFC First Take's I Wish Someone Would Eat Cheese, Autonomous Film's Fierce Men and Bosnian war drama Phantom Party, a co-production between MGM and The Weinstein Company.
