Fox News Channel's legal battle with outspoken hedge fund manager James Cramer has drawn an unlikely participant: NBC News. On Friday, Fox News lawyers issued subpoenas to MSNBC CEO Eric Sorenson, MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews and two producers following Cramer's appearance on Thursday's episode of "Hardball."
The subpoena asks Fox to turn over all documentation and communications between Cramer and NBC. "We know there is a dispute between Mr. Cramer and Fox, and it is our policy not to comment on other people's disputes," an MSNBC spokesperson said. Cramer and Fox's disagreement began in late April, when Cramer announced he was withdrawing shares of TheStreet.
