HOLLYWOOD - Who would you rather see play Jackie Gleason in a movie: James Gandolfini or Nathan Lane? In the film version of the classic 1950s television series "The Honeymooners," currently in development at Paramount, Gandolfini is set to portray the legendary comedian as a large man with a fiery but kind heart.

These two approaches represent Hollywood's old and new ways of recreating the 1950s, a decade that was generally considered a carefree, time of innocence. But it was also a period of latent paranoia and deep hypocrisy. FEAR OF GETTING CLOSER “Jackie Gleason was incredibly destructive at times,” Lane says.
