A New Jersey crime family that fancies itself the real Sopranos of the Mafia has been dismantled. Yesterday, the feds indicted prominent members and associates of the DeCavalcante family on a series of charges, including charges of allegedly plotting to kill the wife of an alleged Mafia turncoat and the couple's three young children - a brazen violation of the Mafia's unwritten code of honor.
Named after boss Simone (Sam the Plumber) DeCavalcante, who died of natural causes, and in the shadow of New York's mafia gangs, the Mafia family gained instant notoriety last year when they grumbled in secret recordings that much of "The Sopranos" was based on their criminal exploits.
