Danny Federici, Bruce Springsteen's longtime keyboardist whose stylish work helped define the E Street Band's sound on hits from "Hungry Heart" to "The Rising," died last night (April 17). Federici, who battled melanoma for three years, died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
"Danny and I worked together for 40 years—he was an amazing keyboard player and a pure natural musician. I loved him dearly...we grew up together," Springsteen said in a statement posted on his website. Springsteen's concerts scheduled for tonight in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and tomorrow in Orlando have been postponed.
