A 911 detective detailed Tuesday the frantic effort to save the life of a police officer shot in the chest by one of two men trying to steal drugs from a Bronx apartment. John Latanzio, in vivid and harrowing testimony, recalled the chaotic scene of the December 2005 shooting of off-duty officer Daniel Enchautegui.
It wasn't until Enchautegui's coat was removed that the severity of his injury became apparent, the detective said. “It was a very large, gaping wound, just below his left nipple,” Latanzio testified.
