Joseph Gordon-Levitt's farewell to the 2009 Sundance Film Festival included running across the Eccles Theater stage and filming the crowd with his digital video camera. The veteran actor and aspiring director (his short film “Sparks” is in competition at the festival) had every reason to be on stage; answering questions from a Saturday morning audience who had just seen his sly and elegant novel 500 Days of Summer. “Sundance kicked ass!” Gordon-Levitt shouted from the stage, receiving almost guaranteed applause.
"The stupid things go away, but these things, the movies, get stronger. It's like everyone in L.A. has moved on." (Everyone, including Gordon-Levitt's 500 Days star Zooey Deschanel) Gordon-Levitt, pulling on his red Obama T-shirt, could have easily done his screaming at the beginning of the festival.
